INTRODUCTION AND BACKGROUND

National Pharmaceuticals Company (NatPharm) was created through an Act of Parliament, the Government Medical Stores (Commercialization Act 2000), to take over functions of the former Government Medical Stores (GMS). NatPharm officially took over the functions of GMS on 1 October 2001.

The Company was established as an autonomous not-for-profit organization, registered in terms of Section 26 of the Companies Act (Chapter 24:03). The affairs of strategic direction of the company are directed by a Board of Directors appointed by the Minister of Health and Child Care.

The priority area for NatPharm remains that of ensuring the availability of safe, effective and affordable medicines and medical supplies to all public health sector institutions. The Company’s involvement in supplying the private sector is to improve access to medicines and medical supplies in this sector too, as well as fulfill its vision of contributing to the reduction in the cost of medical supplies at a national level, by supplying the same at competitive prices.

  • Scheduled efficient and effective procurement through tendering processes, in sufficient bulk to achieve economies of scale and competitive prices

QUALITY POLICY STATEMENT


The National Pharmaceutical Company (NatPharm) strives to be the centre of excellence for the Procurement, Warehousing and Distribution of affordable medicines, medical supplies and services. Our objective is to be the preferred provider of health care commodities and services in Zimbabwe by 2020.

NatPharm will achieve this through the following;

  • Adhering to the requirements of ISO 9001:2015 QMS standard
  • Provision of affordable, safe, quality, efficacious health commodities to both the public and private sector.
  • Upholding Good Warehousing and Distribution Practices to maintain quality of the commodities
  • Adhering to high standards of competence, professionalism and integrity for continual improvement of the QMS and business
  • Measurement and review of set quality objectives and compliance obligations.

 This policy is communicated and implemented within the organisation and availed to stakeholders where applicable.
